WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Looking for a wedding photographer is one of the most important decision you will make for your wedding and your wedding photos !! Your wedding day is filled with unforgettable moments. Laughter, tears and love and there is no better way to capture those than through photo.

But how do we choose the right wedding photographer ?

The key is to know the things you CAN and CAN’T live without while also knowing your style, preferences and budget. In todays blog we are going to talk about these topics to make your wedding planning a breeze and choosing your wedding photographer as easy as ever!

  1. Set the budget

Knowing where you both stand and what you are willing to spend for your wedding photographer is so important. Personally, I believe behind the venue and a wedding planner, a photographer is at the top of my list! Leaving more of your budget open for your photographer to have the dream photos you want to have forever to look back on is worth it ! Just remember these are your wedding day photos and they will live on forever.

2. Know the kind of photos you want captured

There are many different styles out there in the wedding photography world. There is more traditional, fine art, editorial and my personal favorite documentary! The question to ask yourself is do I want more of a unposed, organic moments captured, or more posed and classic portrait styled? I personally as a photographer would classify myself as more of a documentary styled photographer with a twist of traditional.

3. Look over portfolios and connect with photographers

Once you have set a style that the both of you are looking for in wedding photos, from here you are able to narrow down the types of photographers that would fit best for your wedding and the photos that you’ll be receiving. From here, looking at photographers instagrams, websites and where ever else they list there work look for consistency and emotion filled work. For me, I try and do a mixed of documentary and emotion filled images on both my website and instagram as well as mix in color and black in white. We want variety in our images but the editing style consistent. You want to know exactly what you’ll be receiving on your wedding day!

From here, hoping on a zoom or video call with several different photographers to not only here from them personally about there photos, but also see if you connect with them personally! You will be spending most of your wedding day with your photographer, so you want to make sure that you both feel comfortable with them to be your full selfs and trust them to capture your beautiful day.

Once you have finished the three tasks above, setting a budget, know the direction of the photos you want captured as well as meeting them and discussing details of the wedding day, you should be able to narrow it down to the right photographer that fits for you both on your wedding day !

When I hop on a meeting with a potential client ( bride or groom ) I am always looking for a way to make sure I am there to SERVE and CELEBRATE my client on there wedding day! I want them to both feel confident in there decision in moving forward with me by discussing all wedding day details and walking hand in hand through the wedding day planning process.
